EPOS GNSS Data and Products presents the data analysis in double difference at G2 Geodesy & Geophysics Congress in France

Last November (13th to 15th, 2017), Aline Déprez, from EPOS GNSS Data and Products and Ingénieure CNRS (ISTerre - Institut des Sciences de la Terre, Université Grenoble Alpes), attended the Colloque G2 2017 Géodésie – Rhéologie, an event hosted at Nice University.

In the oral presentation entitled “Massive GNSS processing in double difference in the framework of the EPOS-IP project”, Déprez exposed the EPOS project, explaining its phases, objectives and architecture.

After this brief explanation about EPOS, Déprez presented the processing of a massive data set (1360 sites on 18 years) using the double difference method via the GAMIT-GLOBK software. This analysis, conducted on a high computing platform hosted at UGA (called CIMENT), included different steps, which are: a splitting of the big data set in sub-networks, the GAMIT processing for each couple day/sub-network and the daily combination. Following this presentation of the processing, the available products (position time-series, velocity field and strain rate map) and the way to obtain them were showed.

“We succeeded in this up-scaling challenge and generated from a big data set the usual GNSS products: position time series + horizontal and vertical velocity fields”, revealed Déprez adding that automatic derivation of strain rate is well on the way and that real-time processing could be also considered.

“We are almost ready to make GNSS products available to advance research in Earth Science
domain”, has highlighted.

About G2 – The G2 national community (Geodesy - Geophysics) brings together geodesists and geophysicists. Every year since 2003, this community has been meeting for four half-days to discuss national issues and themes of international dimensions. It is an opportunity to address high-level scientific topics while promoting the participation of young researchers, post-docs and doctoral students.
